“Child Advocacy Centre Niagara provides support, care, and compassion to the most vulnerable members of our society during extremely stressful times.  The Centre represents another example of Niagara’s commitment to children who often do not have the opportunity to share their own voice.  As a mother, grandmother, paediatrician and the region’s Medical Officer of Health, I honour the work of the Centre.”

Dr. Robin Williams, Medical Officer of Health, Niagara Region                         November 2009

About Child Advocacy Centre Niagara

Who We Are and What We Do

Child Advocacy Centre Niagara exists solely to  "serve victimized children" within Niagara's twelve municipalities who have suffered abuse.

The Centre is "a safe place to tell your secrets" for children traumatized by abuse.  A friendly, caring team of professionals work together in a private, safe, child-friendly place.  Children are able to provide information that aids in the investigation and prosecution of perpetrators.  Follow-up counselling is provided.

Professional partners are Niagara Regional Police, Family and Children's Services, Family Counselling Centre Niagara and Medical professionals.

Situated at 8 Forster Street, St. Catharines, Ontario the Centre opened its doors in the fall of 2008 and is the first dedicated facility of its kind in Canada.

The need for Child Advocacy Centres in Canada is great.  Within the municipalities of Niagara alone, the latest statistics exposed 708 cases of physical and 343 cases of sexual child abuse.

Advocacy centres have a real impact that is measurable not just in terms of benefits to victims and their families, but also in dollars.

Research by the National Children's Alliance in the USA confirms that an investigation into a child abuse case in a community with a CAC is 45% less expensive than in a community without a CAC.

Child Advocacy Centre Niagara (CACN) is a community-driven non-profit organization, governed by a Board of Directors.  Niagara’s 12 municipalities are served:

- Fort Erie
- Grimsby
- Lincoln
- Niagara Falls
- Niagara-on-the-Lake
- Pelham
- Port Colborne
- St. Catharines
- Thorold
- Wainfleet
- Welland
- West Lincoln
